It's in the Details...

One of the best parts of my job is creating—and maximizing—the fine details in every space I design. A room is not truly beautiful—or truly finished—until together we’ve captured just the right amount of detailing for the space. What can I say, I’m a detail-oriented gal…well, when designing, anyway. My husband might tell a different story at home!
Nothing satisfies me more than a contrasting welt in a stunning oxblood red. Or the perfect vintage knobs on a bathroom vanity. Or the surprise of opening your pantry door enjoying a funky wall covering behind your box of penne pasta. Or covering your “Plans and Projects” wall in a magnetic linen wallpaper for easy display (check out the one at Lori Weitzner Design, Inc.; www.weitznerlimited.com). These details are the period at the end of a sentence; they are my ta-da!
Here are more examples of the fine details that can transform a room from blah to beautiful. Which of these are in your home?
• Experimenting with tile design, pattern and details in a tub and shower enclosure • Adding decorative tape onto the leading edge of a drapery panel • Giving Fido his own hook in the mudroom for a leash, sweater and winter booties • Mixing Grandma’s dinner plates with your new salad plates at your Thanksgiving table setting • When purchasing bathroom accessories, not buying everything to match (yes, Mom, I’m talking to you!) • Lining the back panels of your built-ins with a fabulous wallpaper
Of course, as in all aspects of life, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing in design as well. Too many details in a space make them less special, less important. But capture the right amount of detail in a space and you’ve brought your room to life. Or, in other words, you’ve given your room a “ta-da!”
Happy designing,
Renae
