411 on High Point

I had never been to this place designers have flocked to for decades, until 2 years ago. I always asked myself, why would a designer want to go to a place like this? In the time it takes me to finish this sentence, I will state three reasons:

  1. You can see, touch, and feel [imperative for a designer!] product

  2. It is inspiring and motivates you

  3. You learn so much about the new product coming out and get a chance to get to foster relationships with your vendors and what they stand for [customer service, attention to detail, and quality of product].

There are many different markets around the country that I have on my list to visit. I look forward to finding many different avenues and “nooks and crannies” to find the perfect resources for my clients.

Part 1Furniture Factory Tour

You guessed it, we couldn’t wait to see who was behind making our upholstery [we felt as if we knew them after speaking to them so much!], where our favorite furniture was made [USA], and how it was made.

After arriving in Highpoint NC, we drove an hour and a half to visit our beloved upholstery line. In order to believe in and stand behind the product, we have to continually see new product and sit in pieces that we continuously sell. We ask ourselves, how things sit so we can guide our clients in selecting the appropriate pieces for their space. As designers, we don’t just throw any old fabric on any old piece of furniture. There is a purpose for it all.

Here are some snapshots and musings of what we took in that day.

Two unfinished upholstered chairs with exposed stuffing and fabric strips in a workshop. Concrete floor visible, suggesting work in progress.

The back of a tufted dining room chair prior to putting the back on it.

Leopard-patterned chair in a workshop, partially upholstered with fabric and wood exposed. Industrial lighting and materials in the background.

A hostess chair in a leopard print fabric, receiving some self welt.

Cream sofa in warehouse with scattered boxes. A person in blue stands at a table in the background. Industrial setting.

A classic English roll arm sofa with a tight back cushion. Take a look at all of that fabric in the background [pure heaven]!

Blue patterned sofa in a factory setting, surrounded by other furniture. Calm mood.

Wow! An ornate banquette for a lucky table to nestle into. I can only imagine where these pieces land when they find their home!

Ornate black chair with red Asian-inspired patterns, in a workshop with concrete floors and various furniture in the background.

She’s a beauty…..classy and clean.
