A Peek Into the Interior Design Process at RKID

Interior Design process

The Interior design process is as much about collaboration and preparation as it is about creativity and vision! At RKID, every client meeting—from the initial consultation and preliminary discussions to project milestones and the final result—is carefully designed (get it?) to create a personalized experience for our clients. Let’s take a look behind the scenes to see how our team prepares for client meetings, collaborates internally, and follows up to deliver exceptional results!

Setting the Stage

Our client meetings are tailored to the stage of the design process and the needs of the project. During the initial consultation, we invite clients to our studio to showcase how we work and what sets us apart from other interior designers. These early conversations are essential in understanding the client’s goals, preferences, and lifestyle.

As the design project progresses, we hold detailed meetings to address specific aspects of the project, such as selecting plumbing fixtures, lighting, hardware, appliances, and more depending on the project. These sessions aim to keep the overall vision in mind while keeping the process moving efficiently.

Preparing for Success in the Interior Design Process

Preparation for client meetings begins weeks in advance. Our design team gathers to review project goals, identify key decisions, and determine what materials or visuals will best support the client’s decision-making process.

Design associates collect samples, materials, and presentation elements to give clients a tactile and visual understanding of their options. Project managers and principal designers review agendas, confirm the accuracy of floor plans, and organize renderings or mood boards.

From pinning up samples on our studio wall to setting the ambiance with lighting and candles, every detail matters in creating a welcoming and productive environment.

Tools of the Interior Design Process Trade

Each potential client is unique, and so is the way we present design options throughout the creative process. To cater to different learning and decision-making styles, we prepare a wide selection of materials, including:

  • Renderings and floor plans to provide a clear sense of scale and layout.
  • Material samples are organized in acrylic trays, allowing tactile exploration of fabrics, finishes, and surfaces.
  • Mood boards and large-format presentations that visually tie together the project’s overall aesthetic.

Anticipating Questions and Concerns

Listening is a critical part of our process. From the very first meeting, we take note of client design preferences and concerns in their project description, such as:

  • Storage preferences (e.g., “I like closed storage to avoid clutter”).
  • Material durability (e.g., “Can this countertop withstand red wine spills?”).
  • Style longevity (e.g., “Will this design feel dated in a few years?”).

We address these concerns proactively, which helps clients feel confident in their choices while ensuring the final design project meets their practical needs with beautiful and functional spaces.
